    Common Language: While over 700 languages are spoken in Indonesia, in popular travel locations you will find varying degrees of English. Javanese is considered the most common language after Indonesian.

  • Dress Modestly: Wear modest clothing, especially when visiting religious sites; cover shoulders and knees

    Respect for Religious Practices: Be mindful and respectful of various religious practices, including not interrupting prayers or ceremonies

    Public Behaviour: Avoid public displays of affection, such as kissing or hugging, which can be considered inappropriate

    Being Polite and Smiling: Politeness and a friendly smile are highly valued; being courteous and approachable helps foster positive interactions

    Greeting: A common greeting is the "salam sejahtera" or simply a handshake, often done with the right hand. For formal or traditional settings, a slight bow or placing hands together in a prayer-like gesture is customary.
